FII's keenly buying Nifty and Non-Nifty BSE 200 Stocks

Shareholding Analysis-Jun-14

  1. Jun-14 Quarter, collective Promoter holding went up by ~1%, in Nifty, BSE 200, BSE 500. All other participant's holding value reduced viz FIIs, MFs, BFSI and Public.
  2.  FII's Invested approx Rs 17,400 crores in Nifty 50 stocks, however their holding % gone down from 26.8% to 26.5%. This is because of underperformance of those particular stocks, where FII holding is more than 26% and they have risen by less than 16% (being the % chg in Nifty Mkt Cap over the quarter end) .
  3. Infosys, Dr Reddy, HCL Tech, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Ambuja Cem, IDFC, Lupin, HDFC, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Hero Moto Corp and Hindalco are the stocks which dragged down the FII holding value.
  4. FII's investment in Non-Nifty BSE 200 stocks is approx Rs 20,000.
  5. Key stocks of FII’s interest during Jun-14 quarter: Yes Bank, Idea cellular, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hero Motocorp, Aurbindo Pharma, Chola Investment, Sintex Industries, City Union Bank, Ashok Lelyand, Hathway Cable, SKS Micro Finance, Muthoot Finance, TVS Motors, Indiabull Real Estate, Ajanta Pharma and Persistent System.
  6.  Key Nifty Stocks in which FII’s Invested: Reliance Inds, HDFC, SBI, Kotak Mah Bank, TCS, Hero Motocorp, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, M & M
  7. As per SEBI data, FII’s Invested Rs 37,600 crores in Jun-14 quarter. Most of this investment came in BFSI (approx 15,000 crores), Oil & Gas, Power, Auto & Pharma stocks.
  8.  However, inspite of that, FII’s collective holding in Banking stocks has reduced from 36.6% to 35.1% and in NBFC it reduced from 48.9% to 46.2%. This is because of underperformance (relative to other banking stocks) of ICICI, HDFC Bank, Indusind Bank, where FII holding is as high as 69%, 51% and 56% respectively. On an average Banking stocks run up by 40% in this quarter, against which these bank run up only 10-14%.
  9.  Similarly, HDFC’s gain of just 12% vs. 35% average gain in NBFC space is the reason for fall in FII’s ownership percentage, inspite of pumping money.
